# VS Code

> Add Hive to VS Code through .vscode/mcp.json.

Requires VS Code 1.102 or newer.

## Add the server

Create `.vscode/mcp.json` in your project root:

```json theme={null}
{
  "servers": {
    "hive": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.hiveintelligence.xyz/mcp"
    }
  }
}
```

<Note>
  VS Code uses `servers`, not `mcpServers`, and needs the explicit `"type": "http"`.
</Note>

VS Code opens browser authorization on first use and stores the credential outside this
file, so `.vscode/mcp.json` is safe to commit.

## Verify

Reload the window, open Copilot Chat in agent mode, and ask for something live. Hive's tools
appear in the tool picker once discovery completes.
